The resistance of air conditioning filters is affected by two main factors: airflow velocity (higher airflow velocity results in greater filter resistance) and dust contamination (greater contamination leads to greater resistance). With a constant airflow velocity, air resistance essentially reflects the amount of dust collected in the filter.


The resistance of a newly installed air filter is called initial resistance. As the number of adsorbed particles increases, the resistance also increases. Increased air resistance leads to increased air pressure loss, reducing airflow velocity and power transmission, and increasing fan power consumption, which is detrimental to energy conservation. To maintain and reduce the increase in air resistance, frequent replacement or cleaning of the air conditioning air filter is necessary, increasing maintenance costs. During daily operation of the air conditioner, air humidity also affects air resistance. Increased humidity causes dust particles adhering to the filter material to clump together, blocking airflow and increasing air resistance. Therefore, we need to find a balance between the impact of air resistance, economic costs, and fan energy efficiency to improve the medium-efficiency air filter in the air conditioning unit.

The medium-efficiency filter for the leaf storage room air conditioner uses bag-type synthetic fiber filter material. This material has a filtration accuracy ≤1μm and a filtration efficiency of 40%, performing secondary filtration of fresh and return air to provide a temperature and humidity process environment of 35℃±2℃ and 68%±3%RH for the leaf storage in the fiber-making workshop. However,


composite fibers, as air filters for high-temperature and high-humidity environments, have the following drawbacks:


(1) Composite fibers easily condense moisture in the air, reducing their permeability, increasing wind resistance, and decreasing the air velocity after filtration, which is detrimental to air transport.


(2) Increased wind resistance increases the load on the supply and return air fans, which is not conducive to fan energy saving.


(3) During the air conditioning humidification process, the dust adsorption capacity of the composite fiber material increases, and the pressure difference increases, but disassembly and rinsing are difficult, time-consuming, and labor-intensive.


(4) The service life of the composite fiber material is shortened after rinsing, and the cost of replacing the filter bag is high.


In summary, to improve process assurance capabilities, save energy and reduce consumption, and lower production costs, it is necessary to improve filter materials and filtration methods.
